Bathurst Trip

This page is about my trip to Bathurst with my school and lots of pictures of where we went.I got up at 5:00 in the morning to have breakfast and get ready to go to Bathurst. I”d alreday packed my bags the day before and was so excited. When it was quarter to six  I said goodbye to dad and went with my mum and sister to the school where everyone was waiting to get on the bus, my bus buddy was my friend Jacob. When I saw him we waited together until we were called to hop on the bus. Then came the embarassment when my mum kissed me goodbye but after that we got on the bus and sat down. The teachers told us that the trip up there would be 8 hours! Luckily I bought a book to draw in so me and Jacob played Hangman.

Firstly we stopped at Scienic World in the Blue Mountains  and we went to this lookpout over mountains and the THREE SISTERS!

The Three Sisters

Then we went on this thing called the Scienic Railway. I was freaked out of my brains and thought it was scary but once it started it was AWESOME! It’s the most vertical railway in the world! Literally!  Then we went along a board walk down to the Cableway and caught it all the way to the top again. then we watched a movie about Scienic World and the rides and stuff then the last ride we went on was the Skyway! It was like the the Cableway but it went over the forest that we could see at the lookout but you could also stand on a part of the floor that had a sheet under it then when you reached a certain spot the sheet would vanish and you could see though the floor!!!

Later we stopped for lunch at a park and stayed there for a little while but then we were off to Jenolan Caves.

When we arrived we ate lunch and then we went for a cave tour. First we went through a massive cave that you could go five levels high. We gradully made our way up and on the way we saw heaps and heaps and heaps of tites coming down from the walls and some of them looked like rasher bacon.

I took most of my photos there because I thought it was the best place we went to. Every new place that we went to in the cave our guide, Gary told us all about it. He would also tell when we got to a new level of the cave. At one point he showed us where the founder of the cave came though a hole and it was a long way up! On the slop that the founder would have come down was a wombat skeleton.

He also told us that they have opera singers and singers perform at that spot because the acoustics were really good. He also showed us the old stairs they used to come down and then he put some music on to show us how good it sounded and after that he turned the lights out and then he put different coloured lights in different parts of the cave and it was awesome.

After that we all went on the bus to our accommodation. When we got there it was dark but we had a fire going in a barrel and everyone went around the fire and Gary the owner of the Sheep and Cattle Drome where we were staying introduced himself and then told us to go to our cabins and get comfy then come out ready for dinner. When we went down for dinner we had Chicken Schnitzel and chips!! One of my favourites, how did they guess. After dinner we went to our cabins again and got ready for showers. When it was shower time we had to undress in our cabins and have the towl around you and walk past everyone! It was a bit uncomfortable but it was alright. Then we went to bed and thought we could what ever we wanted but the teachers were walking up and down the corridor! We eventually got in trouble for making fart noises so then we decided to go to sleep but the teachers didnt stay up all night they were asleep on the lounges in the dormitory!

In the morning they woke us up pretty early so we could get ready for the day then get down to breakfast. Today we were going to Hill End, a History Hill tour then we were going gold panning. It was pretty exciting. We had to bring a spare change of clothes in case we fell in the river that we were panning in. We all went down to breakfast and there were a number of selections from cereal then there were cooked breakfast that was pancakes, spaghetti, baked beans, hash browns, sausages or toast. I didnt know what to have and Jacob was having hash browns so I asked him what they were and he said they are made from potato and thats all I needed to hear for me to like them so I had two hash browns for breakfast. After breakfast we headed out to Hill End. The teachers said that with us going there it would at least double the population. It was a long way but when we got there it was worth it but when you see the houses that were destroyed it was kind of sad. Also seeing the houses that look like they are really old and look like they are just hanging on.

After Hill End we went a little further up the road to a place called History Hill and we got a tour by a man called Mr. Drinkwater. He first of all showed us a movie about some people that he interviewed in 19…. I dont know but he interviewed them about what it was like for them living in the gold rush times. Then we went through a tunnel that lead to rooms full of medecines, then mining tools that the diggers used and then he had a chinese section that probably showed how they were effected by the gold rush. Then we went through a tunnel that led to a place where Mr. Drinkwater had set up alot of stamper batteries. He told us alot about stamper batteries. Stamper batteries are big poles that turn which are powered by a turning wheel that turns a thick rubber belt that powers the pole to move up and down. He also told us that they are not used much these days but he managed to get it started. Firstly he started up a little thing that started chugging, then he spun the big wheel around then the poles started turning. He had all his stamper batteries running and he had a 2 pole stamper battery, 1 pole, 3pole and a 4 pole. He had a mini model of a 5 pole stamper battery that was very rarely used as a full sized one. After that he said that we could either stay up at the place where the stamper batteries were or you could come down to a mine that they had made to show people what it was like. When we went through the mine they had some interesting things on the walls like maps and things. Then we had to make another decision and that was wether we wanted to turn around and go back out the mine once we got 135m in or we could climb seven ladders out. I didnt know what to do because I am afraid of heights but I decided to do it. I thought it was ok up until I got to the second ladder and realised that you could see through the ladder and down to the next story!! Even though I was scared out of my brains I kept on going and overcome my fears and I reached the top and when I got out we went for a sausage sizzle and I thought that was my reward for overcoming my fears so it was worth it. After we finished our sausage sizzle we took some photos of some birds that were in some enclosures that I had never seen before.

After History Hill we went a little further down the road where we were going gold panning. When we arrived we got off the bus and headed down towards the river when we were there one of the men handed everyone a little container to put your gold in if you found any. We went down to the river and the men showed us how to pan for gold. Once they finished we all grabbed a pan and started panning. I wasnt having any luck so I went to a different spot. I still wasnt finding any so I gave up and then we stated jumping over the river. I made it two times and said I would do it again but I tried and my right foot made it but my left fell in the water. Luckily it dried before we got back on the bus. When we were on the bus we went back to our camp and had dinner, showers then we went to bed.

The next day when we got up we had to make sure we packed our bags because today we were going home. After we had breakfast we went to a Sheep and Cattle Drome show were they show of there farm animals. When we got there we saw a lot of podiums and a lot of different breeds of sheep in a line with gates stopping them from getting out. They played a CD that told us about the breeds of sheeps as they called the breeds name that sheep we walk up to its podium! Once the sheep had gone to there places they bought in a Highlander which is a massive yak! it was huge. Then they bought in Donkeys cows and even calfs! After that we saw them sheer a sheep!

After the show we left to go to the Fossil and Mineral Museum.

When we got there we had a guide show us around the Museum. There were alot of crystals and rocks around the place and even a T-Rex skeleton!

After the Museum we went for a lap around Mount Panarama and then off to MCDONALDS!!! After that we went to Maccas but you probably wouldnt be interested in that so we went home after that and I was so glad to see my family I hope you enjoyed reading and that you might think of going to Bathurst one day.
